I biked to Villeray this morning hoping to find things left behind by people moving. I found this box next to a moving truck that was being filled by hired movers.
It was full of old comic books.
Most of them are from the 1980s, with a few from the 70s. Most (if not all) were made by DC or Marvel. Superman and the Mighty Thor are heavily represented. There’s over 200 and they’re all in pretty good shape. I think the edges smell very slightly of cigarettes, but it’s very light to the point where it may just be “old paper smell.”
I guess that someone decided it wasn’t worth moving these. I’m not sure what I’ll do with them! I could try to sell them, but it may just be easier to give them away.
Great find! If there is a comic book store near where you live you can contact them and most probably they will buy the whole lot from you. 🙂

Things I find
Yeah, I’m sure these are worth money to someone, especially with the movies, if you’re looking to do that. If not, that’s just a cool collection to have.
I am sure you will find takers for these comic books you found. But you’re right February is probably the slowest and leanest month of the year for retrieving treasures from trash.Few people, including students move during February. It is too early for spring cleaning and with the snowbanks still high, spring cleaning is still a few weeks away. There is also no urge to junk old things as people do from between October and mid-December in anticipation of Christmas.I live in wealthy Montreal West with an artist roommate, and I see little good stuff thrown out in February except maybe once in a while. In the summer,I find great discarded comic books, art, knickknacks, books, etc in NDG/Montreal West every so often and salvage quite a bit.I only randomly check out some streets on trash pickup day in this neighborhood. Are there any bloggers like you who focus primarily on NDG,Montreal West,Westmount,West Island, etc? You seem to be very observant, but you only check Plateau Mont Royal,Mile End,Rosemont,Villeray and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.You leave out a lot of big boroughs from LaSalle to St.Laurent to Ahuntsic-Cartierville.I guess starting from April, you will have more of a chance to check out these boroughs.
As far as I know no one has a blog quite like mine. It makes sense because you really have to devote a lot of time for it get consistent material to write about.
I plan on looking for trash a lot more in the summer and maybe I’ll make it out to those other neighborhoods on occasion. Since I only have a bike going that far out of the way isn’t particularly practical, but I do like exploring new neighborhoods and sometimes the smallest finds are the best ones.
