Yesterday was a mild, sunny day. I went out early, dropping off a few more things at the Give Box, and toured around the neighbourhood.
I saw this old-fashioned TV in the alley adjacent to St-Denis. I haven’t seen one of these in a while! I used to see them a lot more regularly. These things must have sucked to move.
A bit further down the alley (close to Roy) I came across these bags
A music store on St-Denis was throwing away old cassettes, records, and magazines. Some of the stuff was musty and ruined with mildew. I took a few of the nicer looking cassettes and records (some of which were in their original packaging).
I also brought home a bundle of old french film magazines. They’re mostly Cinémonde or Ciné Tele-Revues from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Most of them are in pretty good shape – they smell a bit musty but nothing overpowering. I think that smell will go away anyways.
It seems like many of the front covers are somewhat to very revealing pictures of female stars while the back covers are sort of “classy” photos of male stars (like Sean Connery above). There’s occasional nudity on the covers and inside as well, which is odd because they seem like mainstream magazines overall.
I’m not sure what I’ll do with these yet. There must be close to 100 in total. They’d be great for scrapbooking, but they’re also the kind of thing people like poking through at yard sales. When my friend has her yard sale later this month I’ll likely bring them by.

Later on, again in the alley next to St-Denis (but close to Gilford), was this pile of trash. I brought home a glass jar for storing food.
I also found this pair of Aldo boots. They actually look brand new – I don’t see any wear or tear at all. I can’t tell if they’re men’s or women’s style, which probably means I shouldn’t care too much and just wear them as they fit my feet perfectly!
Overall, not a bad haul. I’m going out in an hour or two for a look around the east side of the Plateau.
Those are really nice-looking boots. I’m pretty sure they’re men’s. Great find!

I love your blog, dude. One of my favorite things to do since childhood is walking around alleys inspecting all the fun and uncommon junk to be found. This is so cool what you’re doing, especially with your goal of trying to redistribute and reuse stuff that still has a purpose. Cheers!
You are opening people’s eyes to the amount of good stuff second-hand stores throw out.You are brilliant.Does the Petit Frere second-hand store throw out mostly kitchenware,shoes and clothes every week or also great vinyl records ,antiques and good books too?I do not know the store even,but I would like some shoes,vinyl records and books from there.I am curious what percent of their haul is kitchenware and clothes,and what percent is vinyl records?Can one find Aldo shoes like the one you found in the trash bins of that thrift store?What percent of their stuff is not defective or broken items?
It depends on the week, you never know what you’ll find. There always seems to be things at Les Petit Freres though (and the church not too far away). You may be able to find some good shoes, but it’s best to think of it as a lottery ticket. You never know what you’re going to find.

There are a number of people who love their pets but have difficulty feeding them.Have you come across dumped pet food or do you know of any of locations where one can dumpster dive for pet food?
I’ve never seen a good dumpster dive place for pet food. I’ll find half-full bags of pet food very rarely – it’s sort of surprising how little I find it now that you mention it.
Can I try searching for an old post on your wonderful blog by typing in a key word in a search box?That would make searching your archives a lot easier.That function seems to be absent on your blog.
Yup, you can do searches – should be at the bottom of the blog. Otherwise if you keep clicking the “see more posts” and eventually you’ll find it all. Otherwise, I think the archives (at the bottom as well) will show you each month of posts.

Cool repurposing idea for that TV cabinet: I’ve seen them made over as beds for cats or small dogs – you take out the tv, which leaves you with a hollow cabinet. A coat of cute paint (like robin’s egg blue) and a cushion and maybe some fabric for the inner sanctuary and your pet is sitting pretty.
